Bologna 2011

I love the Bologna Children's Book Fair.
I love the feeling of possibility before the fair opens

flowers wait to be distributed to the larger booths

a car sits covered

the illustrators' wall is a blank slate

then the fair is off and running

the wall is overflowing with art

And we are surrounded in a world of books
CHARLIE JOE JACKSON'S GUIDE TO NOT READING by Tommy Greenwald

International publishers

three books by Liz Rettig (one of my favorite writers)

Art

Artwork by Yusof Gajah

Display of illustrators from Lithuania

an exibit for Nikolas Heidelbach (his art literally made people gasp -this was a fantastic show of his work)

Great food

Hanging with kidlit people. Talking books.

OpenBook discussed ecological books and projects for children

and before long

... people are tired

This year's new event was the Tools of Change Conference the day before the fair. See the write up by Bridget Strevens-Marzo

Bologna is an inspiring town for photos

Last time I posted Via Malcontenti This year I bring you two signs:

There are big plans for the SCBWI Showcase in 2012 and for presentations during the fair.

On a personal note I was able to see my debut novel for the first time at the fair, talk with my publisher and meet two of the subrights agents for The End of the Line.

  1. I loved this post. Thanks for sharing your great pictures. The food sure looks better in Bologna than at, say, BEA....
