Her post took me back to a day in Sicily with my grandfather, his girlfriend, my aunt and a beach. My grandfather was 89 and had returned to his home city for the first time after 80years.
We visited the small town of San Leon and wandered around until we ended up at the sea. The water was warm!!! We wanted to swim!!!!!
None of us had bathing suits.
It was one of those moments in life when you have to decide...in the future which would I regret more -partially undressing or missing out on a chance to swim in the sea on the Sicilian coast?
First, I made my grandfather promise not to take any pictures. Then I made my own bikini out of my undies and bra and ran for the water.
Later, when my wet bra -or...top of my bathing suit- was tied to the edge of my bag to dry, his girlfriend, Dot, said, "I have to get a shot of you like with your bra on display." I posed. She clicked and then confided, "You didn't make me promise not to take a photo of you."
What the ---!
Didn't she know about girl code???!!!
I didn't know Dot well and couldn't tell if she'd taken a photo or not. And I couldn't tell by her expression either.
She wasn't giving anything up. She just shrugged and said, "I'm in my 70s. What I wouldn't give to have a picture of me when I was in my 30s running on the beach."
To this day, I don't know if she took the photo or not!
But why do we worry so much, really? There are so many pictures of me on FB where I look downright scary! Sometimes I want to remove the tags, but I don’t …who cares?
Life is SHORT!
Let’s be silly! Let’s have FUN!

Nice one!

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, have fun! My dad used to say, "If you haven't seen it before throw a rock at it." That's why I've always thought if some idiot dude flashed me, that I'd probably start laughing.
ReplyDeleteBish - I love your parents. I'm so happy that you write about them the rest of us!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly made the right choice in taking that dip! And I'll bet when you're in your 70s, you would love to have that snapshot, too.
